Sarytogan Graphite achieves 97.7% yield and ultra-high purity for battery anodes

Sarytogan Graphite produced battery-grade coated spherical purified graphite with a 97.7% yield and purity above 99.99%, far exceeding typical industry figures.

Sarytogan Graphite announced that a bulk test of its Central Kazakhstan deposit yielded 97.7% of coated spherical purified graphite suitable for lithium-ion batteries, dramatically higher than the sector’s typical 50-60% yield. The material also achieved purity exceeding 99.99% and tap densities ranging from 0.99 to 1.26 g/cm³, well above the usual 1 g/cm³ standard and considered very rare above 1.2 g/cm³. The trial, carried out by American Energy Technologies Company in the United States, produced about 30 kg of various downstream products, including the high-purity graphite.

Sarytogan plans to ship a 5 kg sample to a leading European battery prototyping organization for testing in 5-amp-hour large-format pouch cells, a step toward qualifying the material for European customers. Managing director Sean Gregory highlighted the importance of small sphere sizes and ultra-high tap density for fast-charging and high-energy-density batteries. The achievement aligns with the company’s broader strategy to become a vertically integrated supplier for the EV and energy-storage markets, backed by a 225-million-tonne resource designated as a Strategic Project under the EU’s Critical Raw Materials Act.
