Saskatchewan Premier Scott Moe to Reveal Provincial Nuclear Power Strategy
Premier Scott Moe will outline Saskatchewan’s plans for nuclear electricity generation and the types of reactors the province intends to develop.
Saskatchewan’s premier, Scott Moe, is set to present a detailed nuclear energy roadmap on Tuesday afternoon, describing the province’s power-generation targets and preferred reactor designs. The briefing comes shortly after Moe returned from the World Nuclear Symposium in the United Kingdom. SaskPower and the provincial government have been conducting a multi-year study of a small modular reactor, aiming for a commercial go-ahead by 2029 pending regulatory approval.
Two locations near Estevan are under review for possible deployment. This provincial initiative dovetails with the federal government’s plan to build ten new reactors by 2040 and to double Canadian uranium exports worldwide.
