Satou Sabally steps back from New York Liberty to address concussion recovery

New York Liberty forward Satou Sabally will be sidelined for an extended period as she works through lingering concussion symptoms, according to head coach Chris DeMarco. The injury happened during the team's June 23 matchup with Las Vegas, and it is her second concussion in twelve months, the first having taken place in the previous season's WNBA Finals while she was with Phoenix. DeMarco, in his inaugural season leading the Liberty after years as an assistant with the Golden State Warriors, stressed that player health remains paramount and that Sabally will return when fully recovered.

The Liberty updated her injury status from "concussion protocol" to "head" for the upcoming game against Los Angeles. So far this season Sabally has logged 13 appearances, posting averages of 10.4 points and 2.8 assists per game. If she regains health, she is expected to be a key figure for the German national team, which will host the FIBA World Cup next month.
