A severe attack on Riyadh's international airport, resulting in at least twelve fatalities and more than 300 injuries, has prevented economy minister Katherina Reiche from returning to Berlin as planned. The Federal Ministry of Economics confirmed that officials are collaborating with other ministries to secure alternative transportation and will respond immediately to any change in conditions. Reiche was in Saudi Arabia for a series of energy-sector meetings, stressing Germany's dependence on oil and gas imports and the importance of diversifying supply routes after the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
She also highlighted participation in the Clean Energy Ministerial, emphasizing efforts to fund modern grids and storage for renewable power. The ministry assured that the minister and her staff will return safely once logistics are finalized.
