Saudi Arabia launches Ceer, its first home-grown EV automaker with two flagship models

Saudi Arabia has created its first domestic carmaker, Ceer, a joint venture between the Public Investment Fund and Foxconn, unveiling two EV models.

In line with Vision 2030, Saudi Arabia has entered the automotive sector with Ceer, the first locally-based car manufacturer, formed through a joint venture between the Public Investment Fund and Foxconn. At its debut in King Abdullah Economic City, Ceer displayed two flagship electric models—the Exobot sedan and SUV—each equipped with “Shahin Wing” falcon doors that add a dramatic flair. The venture plans to expand its lineup to seven vehicles, some of which will be hybrids, by the end of the decade, focusing first on the Gulf Cooperation Council region while leaving open the possibility of broader export if demand materializes.

Observers note the SUV’s styling echoes the older Isuzu VehiCross, a comparison highlighted by editor Jonathan Gitlin. Ceer’s launch signals Saudi Arabia’s push to diversify away from oil and develop a domestic high-tech manufacturing base.

Why it matters

The launch marks Saudi Arabia’s first step toward diversifying its economy with a domestic automotive industry.
