Saudi Arabia Reopens Invitation to Iraqi Prime Minister Amid Post-Attack Diplomatic Push
Saudi Arabia has again invited Iraq's prime minister to Riyadh as both nations seek to ease tensions after recent drone attacks and retaliatory strikes.
Saudi Arabia renewed its invitation for the Iraqi premier to travel to Riyadh, aiming to move beyond a recent flare-up in which Iran-aligned militias in Iraq launched drones at Saudi energy sites and Riyadh, together with the United States, responded with airstrikes. Baghdad is trying to balance attracting Gulf investment with concerns over Iranian sway over its politics. The closure of the Strait of Hormuz by Iran has also hampered Iraqi oil shipments, though Abu Dhabi’s ADNOC has helped route some cargo.
Why it matters
The outreach could calm a volatile regional dispute and preserve vital oil trade routes.
