Saudi-led coalition warns Houthis of weapon smuggling and reports intercepted shipment
The Saudi-led coalition in Yemen cautioned the Houthis against transporting arms by sea and said it had seized a weapons-laden vessel off the coast.
A statement from the coalition's Joint Forces Command warned that Houthi attempts to move missiles, weapons and military gear via boats threaten regional security. The command urged boat owners to refuse cooperation with the group. According to a coalition source, forces intercepted and destroyed a shipment of smuggled arms near the Yemeni shoreline.
Why it matters
Disrupting arms smuggling curtails the flow of weapons that fuel the Yemen conflict and regional instability.
