Saxo warns Nvidia's huge future spending adds layers of risk

Saxo's chief investment strategist says Nvidia's extensive future spending commitments, detailed in its latest 10-Q, complicate the company's risk profile despite strong earnings.

Nvidia's second-quarter earnings surprised the market, boosting the stock by 8.74 percent and lifting broader tech indices. However, the company's 10-Q filing discloses a massive slate of future obligations totaling $366 billion, ranging from supply and capacity contracts to cloud service agreements and equity stakes. Free cash flow dropped sharply to $21.3 billion from $48.5 billion a quarter earlier.

Saxo's chief investment strategist Charu Chanana argues that these commitments make Nvidia's risk profile more intricate, requiring investors to evaluate customer credit, lease guarantees and revenue-sharing deals, not just hardware shipments. While the firm remains profitable, its expanding role in financing the AI ecosystem adds new layers of exposure. The commentary appears amid broader market caution ahead of Fed Chairman Kevin Warsh's Jackson Hole speech.

Why it matters

Investors must gauge Nvidia's growing financial obligations, which could affect its stability and the broader AI market.
