Scam attempts affect 84% of Filipino adults, losses top PHP121 billion

A new report shows that 84% of adults in the Philippines faced at least one scam attempt in the past year, with estimated annual losses of PHP121.8 billion.

The State of Scams Philippines 2026 Report found that 84% of Filipino adults reported exposure to scams, up from 77% in 2025. Survey respondents who suffered losses—about 15% of those surveyed—averaged a loss of PHP10,427 each. Extrapolating these figures, the report estimates total scam-related losses at PHP121.8 billion per year. The data reflect self-reported experiences rather than verified police or banking records.

Why it matters

The high prevalence of scams and large estimated losses highlight a growing consumer protection challenge in the Philippines.
