Scammers lure movie fans with fake free streaming sites for The Odyssey

Fake websites promising free streams of The Odyssey are tricking users into providing credit-card details, exposing them to fraud and malware.

The recent theatrical debut of The Odyssey has spurred a wave of counterfeit streaming portals that appear polished and feature fabricated reviews to seem trustworthy. Visitors are prompted to create an account, provide personal details, and finally enter credit-card information to start a purported free trial, only to discover no film is available. Researchers from Kaspersky and Malwarebytes report that these sites are multilingual, sometimes offering dubbed versions based on the visitor’s location, and may also present fake browser warnings that lead to malicious downloads.

The Federal Trade Commission has cautioned that such services can deliver malware capable of harvesting login credentials and banking data. Experts advise users to verify official streaming sources, scrutinize website URLs, avoid installing unknown executables, and employ strong antivirus protection. If personal data has already been submitted, victims should contact their card issuer, change passwords, and monitor accounts for suspicious activity.
