Scaramucci warns Trump-led summit with Putin and Xi could kill the GOP
Former Trump aide Anthony Scaramucci warned that a Trump-organized meeting with Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping would spell the death of the Republican Party.
Anthony Scaramucci, who briefly served as the Trump administration’s communications director, told Joanna Coles that if Donald Trump proceeds with a proposed summit involving Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping, the Republican Party would be "completely dead," even suggesting a tombstone be erected. The remark follows Trump’s suggestion of a Yalta-style meeting in November that would omit Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, a plan reportedly would be used by Putin to negotiate a Kremlin-favored end to the Ukraine war.
Scaramucci also cited Trump’s recent executive order waiving key Russian sanctions and his call for a new Ukrainian president, indicating a deepening alignment with Moscow. He warned that such a summit would force Republicans to confront a crisis that could threaten Trump’s own presidency. The White House did not immediately respond to inquiries.
Why it matters
The warning highlights how a Trump-led summit with Russia and China could fracture the Republican Party and reshape U.S. foreign policy.
