School incident reports climb above four thousand in 2025/26 academic year
The PSP says school-related incidents rose to more than 4,000 in the 2025/26 year, up from 3,897 the year before, with the majority of crimes taking place inside schools.
Police data show that school-related incidents reached 4,075 in the 2025/26 academic year, rising by 178 cases from the 3,897 recorded in 2024/25. Criminal incidents made up the bulk of the increase, while non-criminal reports also grew. About two-thirds of both criminal and non-criminal incidents happened inside school buildings, with the remainder occurring outside, including on routes between home and school.
The Lisbon metropolitan command reported the most cases at 1,706, with Porto (690) and Setúbal (342) following. Smaller districts such as Évora, Portalegre and Guarda logged the fewest incidents. The PSP’s Programa Escola Segura highlighted that criminal incidents have been above the ten-year average since the 2023/24 school year.
