SCO national coordinators to convene in Islamabad ahead of Pakistan's 2026-27 chairmanship

From Sept 28 to 30, Islamabad will host the inaugural session of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation’s Council of National Coordinators, marking the start of Pakistan’s tenure as chair of the SCO Council of Heads of State for 2026-27. The gathering, led by Pakistan’s national coordinator, will bring together representatives from all SCO member states and the organisation’s secretariat to outline the agenda for the coming year.

Topics include the detailed programme under Pakistan’s chairmanship, logistical preparations for upcoming high-level meetings, and other coordination matters. Pakistan’s chairmanship will focus on enhancing regional connectivity, fostering innovation, expanding economic ties and deepening people-to-people contacts under the theme “Turning Vision into Action: Connectivity, Innovation and Shared Prosperity.” Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has highlighted priorities such as IT, AI, energy, poverty reduction and cultural exchange, while the Capital Development Authority prepares venue upgrades and hotel capacity for the summit scheduled for August 2027.
