Scope and design tweaks aim to boost long-term flood protection in Kelantan

The Sungai Golod Integrated River Basin (PLSB) initiative in Kelantan is undergoing scope and design modifications to reflect climate change impacts, on-ground conditions and resident needs, which will influence its schedule and budget. Changes involve land acquisition, realignment of the project route and increased drainage capacity to improve flood mitigation effectiveness. Deputy Minister Abdul Rahman Mohamad, accompanied by senior PETRA and Department of Irrigation and Drainage officials, visited the site to assess work progress and adherence to timelines.
PETRA highlighted its commitment to prudent financial management, stakeholder input and environmental sustainability. Phase 1 is 73.01 % complete and slated for July 2027, while Phases 2 and 3 are at 3.16 % and 24.18 % and target October 2028 and April 2029 respectively.
