Scottish BAFTAs nominate Borders-based film I Swear for seven awards

The film I Swear, portraying John Davidson’s life, has earned seven nominations at the Scottish BAFTAs, dominating the film actor category.

I Swear, inspired by the true story of John Davidson from the Scottish Borders, has been nominated for seven Scottish BAFTA awards, sweeping the film actor category with Robert Aramayo, Peter Mullan and Scott Ellis Watson all shortlisted. The production previously won three UK BAFTAs, where Aramayo made history by taking both leading actor and rising star honors in the same year. Netflix’s series Dept. Q and one outlet comedy Dinosaur each earned three nominations, while titles like Disaster at Sea and Midwinter Break received two each.

Lucy Halliday appears twice, nominated for actress in both film (California Schemin’) and television (The Testaments). All four TV-actor nominees - Dougray Scott, Jack Lowden, Peter Capaldi and Robert Carlyle - are former BAFTA Scotland winners. Chair Dani Carlaw praised the breadth of Scottish talent, and the audience award shortlist features Julie Wilson Nimmo, Stephen Libby, Peter Mullan, Katie Leung, Ncuti Gatwa and Leah Byrne. The awards ceremony is set for 15 November at the DoubleTree by Hilton Glasgow Central.
