Scottish FA Nears Decision on New National Team Manager Ahead of September Fixtures

The Scottish Football Association announced that it has settled on a preferred choice to succeed Steve Clarke as head coach of the national side, with a decision slated for the next two weeks. Clarke, who had extended his contract earlier in the year, stepped down after Scotland failed to progress beyond the World Cup group stage. The selection process, directed by Craig Mulholland, the SFA's chief football officer appointed in May, has included discussions with numerous candidates from both the United Kingdom and abroad.

While the identity of the incoming manager—whether Scottish or foreign—has not been disclosed, the appointment will be made in time for Scotland's opening Nations League fixtures, starting with a match in Slovenia on 26 September. Former assistant Steven Naismith has said he expects to stay involved with the national team under the new leadership.
