Scottish Greens abandon X, citing platform's spread of misinformation and hate

The Scottish Greens have decided to stop posting on X, accusing the service of fostering misinformation and hate, while remaining active on other social networks.

After a vote by its council, the Scottish Greens declared an exit from X, stating the platform spreads misinformation and hate. The party emphasized that it will keep engaging audiences on other platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Bluesky, Threads, YouTube, LinkedIn and Mastodon. This decision mirrors actions taken by multiple UK government bodies earlier in the year, including the attorney general's office and the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, which also left X over similar worries.

When approached, the Scottish Government confirmed it will remain on the platform. Observers note that X, under Elon Musk's ownership, has faced accusations of algorithmically boosting far-right and neo-Nazi content, and its AI bot Grok has generated extremist and illegal material.
