Scottish prosecutors alert staff after supplier breach exposes employee details
The Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service warned about 300 employees whose names, roles and work emails may have been exposed in a cyber incident at a third-party supplier.
A third-party supplier, working on a data-maturity assessment for the Scottish Government, reported suspicious activity on August 5 and subsequently investigated a breach that may have revealed staff information. The Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (COPFS) said roughly 300 of its employees participated in the survey and that their names, job titles and work email addresses could have been accessed. COPFS emphasized that its own IT environment was not affected and that no confidential case data was involved.
The organization has issued a reminder to its workforce about best practices for handling potential phishing or scam messages linked to the incident. The supplier has taken steps to harden its defenses while the investigation continues. COPFS will issue further updates if significant new details emerge.
