Scottish school mourns former pupil killed fighting in Ukraine
Kirkcudbright Academy announced that former student Arkadii Petrov, who had fled to Scotland as a refugee, was killed while voluntarily fighting on Ukraine's eastern front.
Kirkcudbright Academy shared a statement on social media mourning the death of Arkadii Petrov, a 21-year-old former pupil who had come to Scotland as a refugee following Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. After completing his studies at the Dumfries and Galloway school, Petrov returned to his homeland to fight on the eastern front, despite being exempt from conscription because of his age. The academy highlighted his kindness and involvement in school activities, and extended sympathy to his relatives and classmates.
A fellow student recalled his warm personality and expressed sorrow over his loss in the ongoing conflict. The tribute underscores the personal impact of the war on displaced youths and their host communities.
