Devon Witherspoon secured a four-year, $132 million extension with the Seattle Seahawks, featuring more than $101 million in guaranteed money and an annual average of $33 million. This figure eclipses the $31 million per season earned by Denzel Ward of the Cleveland Browns and outpaces the yearly salaries of quarterbacks such as Aaron Rodgers of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Sam Darnold of the Seattle Seahawks. Witherspoon's compensation also exceeds the guarantees of players like Baker Mayfield of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The contract concluded a competition with New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft, who had been negotiating with cornerback Christian Gonzalez to claim the top spot. Gonzalez is now expected to chase an even higher deal, continuing the upward trend in cornerback salaries.
