Search resumes for eight missing crew and journalists near Anak Krakatau

Eight people—a group of five journalists, two boat crew members and a guide—lost contact while traveling to document conditions around Mount Anak Krakatau after its recent eruption. A coordinated search and rescue operation was restarted at 7 a.m. local time, with the Banten Search and Rescue Office deploying four separate units that are using a speedboat, the vessel KN SAR Tetuka, several RIBs, a thermal drone and rescue trucks, assisted by military, police, local authorities and volunteers.

Deputy House Speaker Sufmi Dasco Ahmad has urged an intensive search and said his parliamentary team is monitoring the operation. The effort continues amid partly cloudy skies and moderate winds in the Sunda Strait.
