Search underway for passenger presumed overboard from cruise docked in Dundee
Authorities have launched a coordinated search for a man believed to have fallen overboard from the MS Ambition while it was approaching Dundee.
A major rescue operation began after the captain of the cruise ship MS Ambition reported a missing passenger shortly before docking in Dundee, having come from Lerwick. The alarm was sounded at about 08:35, roughly 36 nautical miles from Arbroath, prompting lifeboat crews from Anstruther and Broughty Ferry, as well as coastguard teams from Dundee, Arbroath and St Andrews, to join the effort. Aircraft from Prestwick and Carlisle, together with a commercial SAR helicopter, were also scrambled.
Police Scotland said the man's next of kin have been informed and inquiries are proceeding. Passengers heard repeated announcements about the missing individual and were eventually permitted to leave the ship at about 11:30. Ambassador Cruise Lines affirmed it is following strict search-and-rescue protocols in cooperation with the coastguard and police, while Forth Ports confirmed the vessel remains berthed in Dundee.
