Season 3 finale of House of the Dragon draws 21 million viewers in three days

The final episode of House of the Dragon’s third season attracted 21 million viewers across HBO and HBO Max within its first three days, with over 11 million watching in the United States.

The concluding episode of House of the Dragon’s third season aired on Sunday night and amassed a total audience of 21 million across HBO’s linear channel and HBO Max streaming in the first three days, according to the network. More than half of that audience, over 11 million, was located in the United States. Nielsen supplied the cable-viewing numbers, while Warner Bros.

Discovery contributed its own streaming data. The finale’s reach represents a modest 2 percent dip from the season’s opening episode, which drew 21.5 million viewers. Across the season, each episode has averaged about 34 million viewers, nearly matching the 35 million average recorded for Season 2.

HBO claims this places the season among the top three most-watched returning series on HBO Max. The article also notes that Variety’s Sunday feature highlighted the final episode of Larry David’s series Life, Larry and the Pursuit of Unhappiness, which averages roughly 4 million U.S. viewers per episode.

Why it matters

The numbers show the continued strong demand for premium scripted series on both cable and streaming platforms.
