SEBI launches multilingual investor awareness drive to curb rising fraud schemes
SEBI chairman Tuhin Kanta Pandey unveiled Project Jagruk, a multilingual campaign aimed at educating retail investors about fraud and safe investing practices.
During the inauguration of Project Jagruk in Chandigarh, SEBI chairman Tuhin Kanta Pandey highlighted a surge in investment frauds that mislead first-time retail investors, often diverting money outside the securities market via mule accounts. He advised investors to confirm that any entity they deal with is regulated and to use SEBI’s verification facilities such as the Google Play app and Sebi Check. The campaign, designed for a diverse audience ranging from young adults to retirees, will be delivered in English, Hindi and 11 regional languages through television, print, radio, cinema, outdoor, digital platforms, social media, OTT and WhatsApp.
SEBI will collaborate with market infrastructure bodies, AMFI and NISM, and work with the Ministry of Panchayati Raj to reach rural areas. The outreach is scheduled to begin immediately and continue through March 2027, aiming to improve financial literacy and reduce fraud exposure.
Why it matters
The campaign seeks to protect millions of new Indian investors from scams by improving financial literacy and verification tools.
