According to a post by journalist Pablo Torre, the Securities and Exchange Commission has begun an inquiry into Daktronics after the firm’s chief financial officer revealed the agency is gathering information about the company’s relationship with NBA player Kawhi Leonard. Leonard acted as a public face for Daktronics, which supplied the massive double-sided 4K “Halo Board” for the Clippers’ Intuit Dome. Critics argue the endorsement was a mechanism for the Clippers to bypass salary-cap restrictions by compensating Leonard indirectly.
The SEC’s involvement signals heightened seriousness, and officials indicated the probe could continue into 2027. No specific end date has been announced, and the company has pledged full cooperation. The investigation also includes requests for information from the NBA regarding the matter.
