Second Circuit Upholds Dismissal of Wheelchair Users' Lawsuit Against Lyft
A federal appeals court confirmed a lower court’s decision to throw out a class action alleging Lyft limits wheelchair-accessible rides to major cities.
The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit affirmed a New York district court’s dismissal of a lawsuit brought by wheelchair users. Plaintiffs claimed Lyft’s service area failed to provide accessible vehicles outside of large metropolitan areas, violating the ADA and state law. The courts found the complaint did not demonstrate that Lyft’s vehicle options were restricted in a way that created a barrier to service. Consequently, the case was dismissed without further proceedings.
