Security footage guides Hillsboro detectives to masked assailant in Intel garage murder

In January 2023, a 56-year-old contract pipe fitter for Intel was discovered dead inside a Hillsboro parking garage, with minimal external injuries. Detectives Stephanie Winter and Devin Rigo of the Hillsboro Police Department reviewed Intel’s surveillance system, noting a man wearing a construction helmet, red-mirror glasses, and a mask who had spray-painted several cameras earlier that morning. The suspect was captured on video entering a maroon Dodge van without a front plate, later seen near the victim’s black Honda Civic as the victim attempted to unlock his car.

The detectives also uncovered earlier footage showing the same masked individual, whose forehead crease served as a unique identifier. Further investigation linked the suspect’s movements to a Home Depot parking lot where “burner” vehicles were observed, but the maroon van was later towed and scrapped before forensic analysis could be completed.
