Security forces capture LeT commander Musa after months-long Operation Sheruwali

Intelligence inputs prompted a comprehensive plan that culminated in the neutralisation of LeT commander Musa during Operation Sheruwali, concluding a hunt that started in May. This success builds on prior operations that eliminated three fellow commanders: Junaid Bhat in Dachigam on December 3, 2024, Suleman during Operation Mahadev on July 28, 2025, and Yasir in Operation Asdhar on September 4, 2026. The government attributes the four-member cell to numerous attacks across Jammu and Kashmir, such as the Halan, DKG, Kandi, Shahsitar, Shiv Khori, Gagangir, Bootapathri and Baisaran incidents.

Musa’s alleged involvement in the Pahalgam terror attack, which killed 26 tourists in the Baisaran Valley, was a key factor in the operation. The raid demonstrates the effectiveness of coordinated security efforts against Lashkar-e-Taiba operatives in the region. The operation also highlights ongoing challenges in curbing militant activity in the contested border area.
