Security guard describes severe injuries during Shilo Sanders bankruptcy hearing

During the third day of Shilo Sanders' Chapter 7 bankruptcy trial, former school security guard John Darjean described how a hard left elbow to his neck, followed by two punches, caused him to lose balance, urinate on himself and suffer lasting back problems. Darjean, 50, paused his more than two-hour testimony several times to lie on the courtroom floor for relief from the pain he says persists from the 2015 incident at a Dallas school.

The case centers on an $11.89 million default judgment against Sanders, issued after a Texas judge found the teenager had assaulted Darjean while trying to retrieve a phone at Deion Sanders' request. Sanders argues he never struck Darjean and claims he was the one attacked, a stance that clashes with prior court findings. Under bankruptcy rules, debts arising from “willful and malicious injury” cannot be discharged, and Darjean's lawyers are pressing the court to deny Sanders relief. The judge will render a decision after the week-long trial concludes.
