Ségolène Royal Secures Required Endorsements for 2027 Socialist Primary

Ségolène Royal, the 72-year-old former minister who lost the 2007 presidential runoff, declared on Sunday that she has gathered all the endorsements needed to compete in the Socialist primary for the 2027 French presidential race. She highlighted that the signatures represent a wide range of ideological tendencies inside the Parti socialiste, and expressed a desire to bring order and dignity back to French public life.

Royal made the statement during an appearance on LCI, adding she did not expect the process to move so quickly. The primary, scheduled for two rounds on 9-10 and 16-17 October, will also include Raphaël Glucksmann, Olivier Faure, deputies Philippe Brun and Jérôme Guedj, former mayor Fabien Verdier, and Emmanuel Maurel of the Gauche républicaine et socialiste. Royal has so far offered few policy details, focusing instead on the need for internal party renewal.
