Sejm authorizes CBA arrest of Civic Coalition MP Wojciech Król

On Thursday the Sejm gave an absolute majority approval for the detention and temporary arrest of Civic Coalition MP Wojciech Król, following a request from the European Prosecutor’s Office. The roll-call recorded 422 votes in favour, three against, five abstentions and thirty members absent, exceeding the 231-vote threshold. Acting on the prosecutor’s directive, the Central Anticorruption Bureau took Król into custody, as announced by special-services coordinator Tomasz Siemoniak.

Earlier, a parliamentary rules committee had already stripped Król of his immunity, though it initially opposed his arrest. Prosecutors now cite fresh evidence suggesting Król may have participated in fraud and corruption related to tram-infrastructure procurement in the Górnośląsko-Zagłębiowska Metropolia. This marks the second set of allegations against the lawmaker, expanding the investigation beyond the earlier request. Authorities said the new findings increase the likelihood of criminal conduct.
