Sen. Mark Kelly critiques cost-of-living pressures and defense cuts while touring Senate battlegrounds

Senator Mark Kelly told Margaret Brennan that rising expenses and the president’s defense policies are hurting Americans, and outlined Democratic plans to win back the House and Senate.

Senator Mark Kelly appeared on one outlet's interview from Charleston, South Carolina, where he described widespread voter anger over soaring living costs and what he called an unresponsive president. He attacked recent defense actions, alleging they undermine readiness and target minority and female officers, and warned that a planned 20% reduction in senior officers would exacerbate the problem. Kelly presented a legislative package with colleague Chris Van Hollen that would increase taxes on those earning over a million dollars while cutting taxes for families making up to roughly $160,000.

He linked these economic measures to ending the war in Iran and reversing current tariff policies, which he says have pushed prices higher. The senator listed several Senate contests he views as competitive for Democrats, including races in Kansas, Iowa, Alaska, Maine and Ohio, and noted a House candidate, Admiral Nancy Lacore, as pivotal. He concluded that securing control of both chambers is necessary to implement the proposed reforms.
