Senate finance chief urges House to keep 2027 budget intact
Senate Finance chair JV Ejercito asked the House of Representatives not to rescind its approved 2027 General Appropriations Bill, warning it could delay year-end budget approval.
JV Ejercito, who leads the Senate Finance Committee, appealed to the lower chamber after Makabayan legislators called for the withdrawal of the P7.2-trillion 2027 budget measure. He cautioned that recalling the bill might prevent the national budget from being passed before the end of the year. Ejercito suggested that the remaining differences between the Senate and House versions should be settled in a bicameral conference committee rather than through a recall.
Why it matters
Repealing the approved budget could stall the Philippines' fiscal planning and delay government spending for 2027.
