Senator Cassidy stalls four Trump labor nominees pending Lori Chavez-DeRemer briefing

Senator Bill Cassidy, the Republican leader of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, announced a hold on four of President Trump's nominees to independent labor agencies. The affected positions include a seat on the Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission, a role at the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service, and two seats on the National Mediation Board. Cassidy said the committee has not been briefed on the inspector-general investigation into former Labor Secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer, whose resignation followed allegations involving security guard Brian Sloan.

He emphasized that the lack of briefing violates Congress's oversight responsibilities. The hold will stay in place until bipartisan members receive a full briefing. Meanwhile, Trump’s pick for Chavez-DeRemer's replacement, Keith Sonderling, has already cleared the HELP Committee and is awaiting a Senate floor vote.
