Senator Cornyn condemns GOP Railroad Commissioner nominee Bo French for racist post
Senator John Cornyn publicly rebuked Bo French, the Republican nominee for Texas Railroad Commissioner, after French posted a racially charged comment about South Asian students at a University of Texas football game.
After the University of Texas defeated Ohio State, Bo French posted a picture of South Asian students celebrating and warned that the scene illustrated the displacement of Americans by foreigners. The former Tarrant County GOP chair, who has previously advocated for the deportation of 100 million people, faced immediate backlash from Senator John Cornyn, who demanded that fellow Republicans condemn the apparent racism.
State Rep. Jon Rosenthal, a Democratic challenger, thanked Cornyn for speaking out, while Texas House Speaker Dustin Burrows and Reps. Jeff Leach and Lacey Hull urged French to delete the offending content. The controversy echoes earlier criticism from Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, who once called for French’s resignation over an anti-Jewish/anti-Muslim poll.
French retaliated by accusing Cornyn of siding with foreign nationals and called himself a pro-America candidate. No comment was received from the University of Texas or French’s campaign.
