Senator JV Ejercito proposes raising PERA to P5,000 for Philippine public workers

Senator JV Ejercito filed a bill to increase the monthly Personnel Economic Relief Allowance for government employees from P2,000 to P5,000.

The proposed legislation, Senate Bill No. 2540, seeks to lift the PERA to P5,000 per month, a figure unchanged since a 2009 joint resolution. It is presented as a safety net for more than three million civil servants. The move follows demands from teachers and other government-worker groups.

Why it matters

A higher PERA could improve the financial wellbeing of millions of Philippine civil servants.
