Senator Mark Villar joins Senate majority, appointed to CA and Public Works chair

The Senate elected Mark Villar to the Commission on Appointments and as chair of the Public Works Committee, moving him from the minority to the majority bloc.

In a Thursday session, the Senate appointed Mark Villar to the Commission on Appointments and named him chairman of the Senate Committee on Public Works, signaling his transition to the majority bloc. Majority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri led the motion, which passed without opposition, and affirmed that Villar's new roles are “as part of the majority.” Villar had left the minority two weeks earlier after backing a motion to challenge a July 6 decision that set the impeachment conviction threshold for Vice President Sara Duterte.

The realignment brings the majority to 14 members and the minority to 10, though four minority senators are currently not attending sessions. Detained senators Jinggoy Estrada and Rodante Marcoleta face separate plunder charges, while Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa remains in hiding due to an ICC arrest warrant, and Loren Legarda is on extended medical leave.
