Senior Gothenburg police officer convicted of misconduct after demanding ID at nightclub
A senior Citypolisen officer in Gothenburg was found guilty of a service offence for demanding identification and assaulting two men at the Yaki Da bar.
At a Citypolisen team-building event, the most senior officer became visibly intoxicated and went to the Yaki Da nightclub in Gothenburg. He intercepted two men in their twenties, demanded their identification, entered their details into police records, and physically assaulted them, claiming their thick jackets looked suspicious. One of the men said the officer was threatening and out of control.
A patrol from a neighboring police district was required to escort the officer out of the venue. Gothenburg District Court determined the officer violated multiple police regulations and convicted him of a normal-grade service offence, imposing 60 day fines and ordering payment of court expenses. The officer maintains his innocence and will remain on the force.
