Senior IAS officer Prakash Rajpurohit appointed deputy election commissioner in major reshuffle
Prakash Rajpurohit, a 2010-batch IAS officer from the Rajasthan cadre, has been named deputy election commissioner, succeeding Sanjay Kumar.
In a sweeping bureaucratic reshuffle, the government named Prakash Rajpurohit deputy election commissioner, a post he will hold until April 8, 2030, taking over from Sanjay Kumar. Rajpurohit, a 2010-batch IAS officer of the Rajasthan cadre, most recently acted as joint secretary in the Department of Defence Production and has experience as director in the Department of Economic Affairs, where he managed international investment treaties.
He also served as Collector of Ajmer and Commissioner of Commercial Taxes in Rajasthan. Simultaneously, Vivek Khare, a 1996-batch Indian Telecom Service officer, was appointed joint secretary of the National Testing Agency, with his tenure ending on December 2, 2029. The appointments align with the Radhakrishnan committee's October 2024 recommendations to bolster the NTA's staffing, prompting the creation of 16 new posts and the clearance of 27 senior-level appointments across agencies such as the Election Commission, National Health Authority, NITI Aayog, and others.
Why it matters
The new deputy election commissioner will oversee India's electoral processes during a critical decade.
