Senior Russian General Charged and Detained in Unnamed Criminal Case
A Moscow military court placed Major General Sergei Nikikushkin in pre-trial detention over undisclosed charges.
A Moscow military tribunal sentenced the detention of Major General Sergei Nikitushkin, the head of the department responsible for training facilities and equipment within the Main Directorate of Combat Training. The 235th Garrison Military Court issued the ruling without revealing the exact charges. Nikikushkin, 51-year-old and a veteran of Russia’s war on Ukraine, was promoted to major general by President Vladimir Putin in December 2024.
He has previously highlighted the lack of funding for simulators and modern equipment such as drones and night-vision gear. His arrest is linked to a broader pattern of investigations into the directorate’s activities, including the Patriot Park embezzlement cases involving former officials.
Why it matters
The detention highlights internal scrutiny of Russia's military training leadership amid ongoing war efforts.
