Seoul Mayor signals openness to co-host 2036 Olympics with North Jeolla
Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon said the city would consider a joint bid with North Jeolla Province to host the 2036 Olympic Games, provided the plan can secure IOC approval.
At a City Hall press conference, Oh Se-hoon expressed willingness for Seoul to partner with North Jeolla on a 2036 Olympic bid. He emphasized that any arrangement must be competitive enough to win the International Olympic Committee’s endorsement. The mayor indicated the Seoul Metropolitan Government would not demand changes as a condition for participation and urged the provincial authorities to submit a formal proposal if interested.
Why it matters
A joint bid could reshape the regional distribution of Olympic hosting duties and affect future infrastructure investments.
