Seoul to raise weekend Han River ferry fares and expand service next year

Seoul’s municipal government intends to raise the weekend and public-holiday fare for the Han River ferry shuttle, known as the Hangang Bus, from the present 3,000 won to an estimated 5,000-10,000 won beginning next year. The service, which started on 18 September 2025, has already carried more than 600,000 passengers and experiences strong weekend usage. Officials will hold public hearings, with a definitive decision slated for April of the following year.

Mayor Oh Se-hoon said the city will also increase the number of piers and ferries, aiming to reduce waiting intervals to roughly 15 minutes. An express route will be introduced to diversify travel options, and the administration hopes to evolve the ferry into a regular public-transport mode rather than a purely tourist attraction.
