September 2026 bank closures: dates and states where branches will be shut

The Reserve Bank of India has released its September holiday calendar, indicating that bank branches will not operate on regular Sundays, the second and fourth Saturdays, and on a variety of regional festival days. On September 4, branches in numerous states including Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh will close for Janmashtami. Subsequent closures include Rajasthan on September 11 for municipal elections, Assam on September 12 for a local religious observance, and several states on September 14 and 15 for Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations.

Additional shutdowns occur on September 21 in Assam and Kerala, September 22 in Jharkhand, September 23 in Jammu & Kashmir, and September 25 in Sikkim. While physical branches will be inaccessible on these days, customers can still use ATMs, UPI, internet and mobile banking for most routine transactions, though tasks requiring a branch visit will be delayed.
