September 2026 SSI checks up to $994 to be mailed within three days
The Social Security Administration will issue September 2026 Supplemental Security Income payments, up to $994 for individuals, in three days, ahead of the usual first-of-month schedule.
The Social Security Administration confirmed that the September 2026 Supplemental Security Income (SSI) disbursements, capped at $994 for individual filers, will be sent out in three days. SSI payments are ordinarily scheduled for the first day of the month, but when that date coincides with a weekend or a federal holiday, the agency issues the funds on the last business day of the prior month. The benefit supports individuals with limited income who are blind, aged 65 or older, or have qualifying disabilities, with joint filers eligible for up to $1,491 and caregivers for up to $498.
Eligibility requires U.S. citizenship or certain non-citizen classifications, residence in the 50 states, the District of Columbia, or the Northern Mariana Islands, and no absence from the United States for a full calendar month or 30 consecutive days. A complete payment calendar is available on the agency’s website.
Why it matters
Timely SSI payments are essential for low-income seniors and disabled Americans who depend on them for basic living expenses.
