September Social Security checks start rolling out in a week

The first batch of September Social Security benefits, capped at $5,181, will be deposited in seven days for retirees born on or before the 10th of each month.

The Social Security Administration announced that the initial tranche of September benefits will be issued in seven days, with payments arriving on Wednesday, Sept. 9 for retirees born on or before the 10th of the month. A follow-up distribution is scheduled for Sept. 16 for individuals born between the 11th and 20th, and a final round on Sept. 23 for those born on or after the 21st. Benefit amounts are capped at $5,181, the maximum for a 70-year-old retiree, while the youngest eligible age, 62, can receive up to $2,969.

Eligibility begins at age 62, and recipients can estimate their monthly checks using the agency’s online calculator. Social Security is financed through payroll taxes from workers and employers, but trustees warn the trust fund could be depleted by 2032 without congressional action.
