Serbian Vice President Ana Brnabic Assumes Interim Presidential Duties

On Monday, Ana Brnabic stepped into the role of acting head of state following Aleksandar Vucic's resignation the previous evening. The constitution allows her to hold the position for up to three months and tasks her with calling a presidential election. Brnabic previously served as prime minister, making her the first Serbian politician to occupy all three top constitutional offices. Vucic said he is leaving to campaign as a regular citizen in the upcoming parliamentary election and hopes to return to government leadership.
