Settlers Cover Palestinian Café Entrance with Hundreds of Israeli Flags
Israeli settlers placed dozens of Israeli flags at the doorway of a Palestinian coffee shop in Luban al-Sharqiya, blocking its view, the owner said.
A Palestinian coffee shop in Luban al-Sharqiya, located on the main north-south road of the West Bank, was confronted with a line of Israeli flags placed by nearby settlers, effectively hiding the entrance from drivers heading south. Owner Mueiyyid Hussein described the display as a clear intimidation tactic and said a settler who installed the flags filmed the shop before driving away, later returning to check whether any flags had been removed.
Hussein said the settler warned he would return to close the café. The Israeli military did not respond to requests for comment on the flag placement. This incident reflects a wider pattern of settlers using flags and other measures to pressure Palestinians and claim territory, a practice condemned by UN bodies and most countries as illegal under international law.
Why it matters
The flag placement illustrates ongoing settler intimidation tactics that heighten tensions in the occupied West Bank.
