Extremist Israeli settlers have laid siege to the homes of the Abu Ridi and Hassan families in the West Bank village of Qusra since Sunday, dismantling a wall, using stones to block the road and cutting water and electricity, which left seven residents, including two girls, unable to leave. Initial Israeli soldiers who arrived were filmed praying alongside the settlers, and later security forces withdrew, leaving about a dozen settlers at the outpost.
The Israel Defense Forces issued a statement denouncing the illegal seizure of Palestinian homes and announced disciplinary measures for involved personnel, while senior officers, including Maj Gen Avi Bluth, expressed grave concern on site. Human-rights organization Yesh Din urgently urged the Central Command to protect the families, evacuate the outpost and hold settlers accountable; a Palestinian ambulance eventually reached the site with food and medical aid.
The United Nations’ deputy special coordinator, Ramiz Alakbarov, warned the Security Council that the West Bank is at a breaking point, noting a surge in settler attacks and displacement of thousands of Palestinians. Israeli Ambassador Danny Danon dismissed settlement concerns, insisting Israel will continue its presence.
