Seven arrested after assault over noise kills Manipuri musician in Delhi

Around 11.30 pm on Sunday, Chongtham Vikram Singh descended from his apartment after hearing a disturbance and was confronted by a group of men who punched and kicked him. He later complained of breathlessness, was taken to Holy Family Hospital by his son Yaiphaba, and died early the next morning. Police report that the assailants claimed they only wanted to "teach him a lesson" for objecting to noise from a nearby dhaba, though no formal complaint had been filed.

Seven men—Bharat Kumar, Pramod, Ramzan Khan, Deepanshu, Mohan Vishwakarma, Vijay and Mannu—and a juvenile have been arrested; investigators are examining possible racial slurs and the dhaba owner's role. The North Eastern Students' Organisation condemned the killing, urging a transparent investigation and highlighting ongoing discrimination faced by Northeastern Indians in Delhi. Authorities await the post-mortem to confirm the cause of death and will act against the dhaba owner if misconduct is found.
