Seven arrested in suspected mob lynching near Palakkad's Moolathara Dam
Police have detained seven men suspected of killing a man in a mob attack near Moolathara Dam in Palakkad.
Seven men between the ages of 20 and 25 have been taken into custody by police in Palakkad following the discovery of a body near Moolathara Dam that was later classified as a suspected mob lynching. The deceased, whose name has not been released, was found by locals on Sunday morning and a post-mortem at Thrissur Medical College Hospital showed signs of homicide. According to Meenakshipuram police, the accused were under the influence of alcohol and attacked the victim with stones and wooden planks after alleging inappropriate behavior toward women in their household.
The suspects claim they only sought to expel the man, not to kill him, but the investigation suggests a brutal assault leading to death. Police are also probing the victim's possible hearing and speech impairments and are coordinating with authorities in Tamil Nadu to confirm his identity. Formal charges are expected to be filed after the suspects appear before court.
